Honoring you is to love who you loved.
To care for the people who meant the most to you. To show up for the ones you held closest. To nurture the relationships that made your life meaningful.
Because, Steven, the most important people in your life were your children. You told me every day. You told them every day. They were your heart, your purpose, and the greatest part of your life.
Your children helped make you who you were. They shaped your dreams, your priorities, your laughter, and the man you are. They gave you reasons to keep going, things to look forward to, and a kind of love that changed your life forever.
One of the greatest ways I can honor you is by loving them the way you loved them. By helping them grow, being there through every stage, reminding them who they are, and giving them the chance to become everything they’re meant to be.
I can’t make you physically present for every milestone. I can’t give you the chance to watch them grow up the way you deserved to. But I can make sure your children grow up knowing how deeply their father loves them.
I want them to know they can grieve you and still live beautiful lives. They can miss you and still laugh. They can chase their dreams, fall in love, build families of their own, and become extraordinary people without feeling like they’re leaving you behind.
And I hope they live in a way that makes you proud. Not because grief demands it of them, but because love inspires them. Because they know who’s watching, and because they’ll always want to look up at you and say, Dad, look at me. I’m making you proud.
You told me you wouldn’t want them to grieve the way I grieved after losing my parents. And I understand that now in a way I never wanted to. I want them to know they can carry you with them without carrying only the pain of losing you. I want them to find joy, purpose, and meaning in their own lives, knowing that their dad would want nothing less for them.
And I have to keep moving forward, too. I have to be the greatest mom I can be, not because I can replace you, but because I’m the one who’s here to guide them now. I have to be all that and more for them, even on the days I don’t know how. I have to give them the best life I possibly can, because I know that’s what you would want.
I’ll keep finding pieces of you in their personalities, their laughter, their mannerisms, and all the little things that make them who they are. I’ll tell them about you. I’ll remind them of you. I’ll make sure they know that being your child is something they can carry with pride.
Because honoring you isn’t just about remembering the man you are. It’s about carrying forward the love you give, the people you cherish, and the example you set.
That is not a small way to honor you, Steven. It is a big part of the life I have left to live.
And I think this is true for all of us. One of the greatest ways to honor someone we love is to love the people they love most. To show up for them. To protect what matters to them. To help the people they cherish continue to grow and live fully.
Because sometimes, the greatest way to keep someone’s love alive is to pour that love into the people who mean everything to them.
And that’s what I’ll do, Steven.
I’ll love the people you love. I’ll care for the hearts you care for. And I’ll spend the rest of my life helping your children become the people you hope they’ll be.
But there’s something else I need the world to understand.
I am still your wife, Steven.
I will always be proud to carry that title. Being your wife is one of the greatest honors of my life. You are my husband, you are my person, and you are the love I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
I miss my husband. I miss your voice, your presence, your laughter, and the ordinary moments that made our life ours. I miss having you beside me through the days we planned to spend growing old together. I miss you in ways words will never fully explain.
But I am not ashamed to say that I am still married to you. I don’t need to stop calling myself your wife just because I can’t hold your hand anymore. Our life together matters. Our marriage matters. And my love for you is not something I intend to leave behind.
I will keep raising the children you love so deeply. I will keep showing up for them, helping them grow, and doing everything I can to make you proud. My life is dedicated to them, just as it always has been, and I will carry your love with me through every stage of theirs.
There will never be anybody else for me, Steven. I don’t want anybody else. I had my love story. I got to love you, build a life with you, marry you, and bring five beautiful children into this world with you. I got to experience a love that shaped who I am, and I’m grateful for every part of it. My heart knows who it belongs to, and that will always be you.
And one day, baby, I believe we will be together again. Until then, I will keep living this life as your wife, loving you in the ways I still can, and holding on to the promise of eternity.
I’m still your wife. You’re still my husband. And eternity is still ahead of us.
I am honored to be your wife. I am proud to be your wife. I will always be your wife.
Forever your wife, Steven.
Until eternity.
